94.5 Bay FM hit the air around the time the news flashed that George Michael had died. To its credit, 94.5 Bay FM made sure to include his solo and Wham! hits from the start. The station’s new website also has a homepage link to a story on his death.

Anyway, here’s my “sick and tired” choice: Stereo mixes of Detroit-era Motown hits. “The Tears of a Clown” is the biggest offender because the stereo LP version is speeded up and different from the monaural 45 rpm mix.

Southern Cali already has “Back in the Day Hits” on KDAY. I seriously doubt a Spanish operator like Entravision would do an English format in the Southland.
Speaking of whom, Entravision is targeting midnight Sunday for the new format.

And why does Nathan want to bring back a radio station that existed 40 years ago? THAT is “time warp” stuff.

Call letters are Government-Speak — and no city has exclusive rights to any particular callsign.

102.1 The Edge was the lowest-rated music station in iHeart’s Dallas cluster. You’re suggesting that it be replaced with a gimmick format like Rap Oldies? Even Bob Pittman would say that’s a stretch.
Adult Contemporary is iffy as KLTY owns that niche even though it’s a Christian A/C.

When Boston already has a heritage Rocker in WAAF?
“Time Warp” programming is for dorks, geeks, and retro snobs. Beasley Media does not do “Time Warp” stuff.

    • What about all 80s? Or is that stupid too?

    • Variety hits stations are predominantly 80s heavy, which make them so-called “time warp stations.” And Beasley now has the successful 95.7 WBEN-FM via the Greater Media merger.

      So… you’re wrong.

Miami and Tampa have Soft A/C already. Big ratings, small ad billings, have to be propped up by their clustermates.

WBT also has University of North Carolina sports, a major drawing card in a state where college basketball is dominant.

Yeah, because that “great station” doesn’t have a measurable audience and Nash Icon does.
The shutdown of AM 1470 also means Bowling Green State University sports moves to 100.7 analog/105.5-HD2 as the Toledo Blade reported.

98.3 dropped Alt-Rock one day after the Nashville ratings for July were released. It appears the Alt-Rock signal had an audience too small to measure.
And iHeartMedia is not in the business of catering to fanboys.

    • Nielsen is very inconsistent with what translators appear in the public books. Alt 98.3 was never listed so you cannot state that it had an audience too small to measure, it simply was not made public.

“Air talent”? On an HD-plus-translators format? More likely it was Premium Choice if not jockless.
Besides, you just had the Americana hole filled by a non-commercial FM that has a full-market signal.

    • There was on air talent that was local to Nashville and was actually pretty good. Now we have the same old crap country station without DJs and the same tired old playlist. If you listen to country in the Nashville area all you do is switch the station when a commercial comes on to another country station and so and so forth. I can’t believe they…[Read more]

You have to cut Gino Vannelli a break — Toronto radio played him if only to meet the CanCon quota.
On another front WABC had morphed into Full Service in 1981, going Adult Contemporary by day, Talk at night, plus Yankees baseball. That didn’t last as WABC went full-time Talk (plus Yankees) the following spring.

That situation at 97.5 The Fanatic got resolved pretty quickly. Greater Media has suspended PD Matt Nahigian, Egan himself and Missanelli’s on-air partner Jason Myrtetus.

The only Ottawa audience 101.5 The Fox had was DX geeks. That US signal barely rimshots Cornwall and Brockville.

    • If one just looks at radio-locator, one could erroneously assume it doesn’t make it much past the St Lawrence River. But if you actually drive around Ottawa, their(WRCD) signal is very listenable on car radios. Guess that should be “was very listenable” now that CIDG is on 101.7.

      • The Rebl logo is trying to copy The Bear’s. Also, I wouldn’t use Radio-Locator for anything anymore. FCCData.org is where it’s at.

        • Also, Jim, how do you know that WRCD is receivable in Ottawa itself?

        • Very true,KS, re radio locator. Definitely not a definitive source. The reason i know(until the move to 101.7 changes things) 101.5 The Fox is easily heard on a car eadio.in Ottawa is from driving around that city many occasions

Inside Music Media said Limbaugh’s new contract is a revenue-sharing deal worth much, much less than $400 million.
As well, his stations will continue to pay cash on the barrel to carry his show. That’s been the M.O. ever since Limbaugh went national in the late 1980s.

    • And run national spots on top of that.

The results of the upcoming election will probably have a big bearing on Limbaugh’s future–and Premiere and iHeart, for that matter.

Call letters are Government-Speak. 105.1 The Bounce is the station name for public consumption.

    • That’s a radio person talking. Real people know what call letters are – there’s 80+ years of their use to ID the station. These monikers like “The XXXX” are stupid radio speak.

      • I’ll put money on the fact that you’re wrong about “Real people know what call letters are”.

In the 13 years that I’ve been in Milwaukee, nobody has referred to 103.7 Kiss FM as “WXSS”. When I programmed Star 105 in Illinois, there wasn’t a single person that referred to the station as “WZSR”.

9 times out of 10, people will refer to a…[Read more]
