    Another case of cost-cutting.

  • Eric Jon Magnuson commented:

There’s been some speculation that XETV in Tijuana (which is losing The CW to a subchannel of KFMB-8) may become the new Univision affiliate.

Although in Mexico, I think Televisa owns at least a share of XETV. And Televisa is a part-owner of Univision, so a move to XETV might make a lot of sense.

Didn’t the FCC force ABC to disaffiliate from XETV-6 in the 1970’s after years earlier allowing the station to pick-up ABC’s West Coast feed by receiving a microwave feed from the California side of the border?

  • It’s not just market demographics, but also geography: The nearest land point in Cuba to the U.S. is only a little more than 90 miles from the Florida Keys that are just south of Miami. And Key West is likely in the WPLG-10 coverage area (likely through a translator station and being locally available on cable).

    I would expect that WFOR-4, WTVJ-6…[Read more]

The decision may have been made at Salem Media corporate to get Mike Gallagher cleared live in Boston.

Yesterday (January 14th) marked the 65th anniversary of the premiere of NBC’s “Today Show”, the first early-morning show on network television.

  • And it should be noted that the “heart on satin” opening of “I Love Lucy” (with a satin background, a heart being drawn, then the series title and cast members’ names inside of that heart) wasn’t part of the show’s original CBS network run.

I wonder if CBS will soon give up on CHR here in Boston.

If they do, I could see WODS-103.3 become a simulcast of news by day/talk by night WBZ-1030 (possibly with the WBZ-FM call letters moving away from 98.5 and the latter given new call letters that spell “Sports Hub”, which is the successful current format on 98.5).

Will WWRM-94.9 in Tampa Bay be the syndicated Brooke and Jubal show’s next conquest?

  • joseph_gallant posted a new activity comment 1 month, 1 week ago

This will probably be the syndicated Brooke and Jubal show’s entry into the Bay Area.

  • joseph_gallant posted a new activity comment 1 month, 1 week ago

Wait ’til the first of the year, when Brooke and Jubal will likely get on a lot more stations, displacing a couple of dozen (or even more) local morning shows on Hot AC-formatted stations.

Is it me, or are “K-Love” and “Air 1”, especially the former, spreading around the nation like a virus??

If only the “Indie” format would come back to the Los Angeles area on the 107.1 trimulcast!

    • Because the market needs more Alternative to go up against two full powered stations, a non-comm AAA, and the music programming on KCRW.

      • Good point, Lance. I’m spoiled now, I spend most of my time listening to KCSN 88.5 and KCRW 89.9 HD2 ‘Eclectic24’ – what’s on 106.7 these days?

    • That “once in a lifetime format” will not happen again (commercially) on Southern Cali radio. Like Lance mentioned, you got 2 full-powered Alternative FMs, and a couple of non-comms. Really would be hard to make a go of it.

    • +1 for real adventurous radio like “Indie” was, curated by real humans and not a computer. It’s what made freeform radio so great in the 1970s and could have a new renaissance again. Today, the dial is robotic and that’s why people have been leaving old fashioned radio en masse for so long. There’s no LIFE in today’s radio.

    • Indie 103.1 continues online, where its intended audience is more likely to listen to it.

Wally Brine is a second-generation broadcaster; his farther was Salty Brine, who for decades was the beloved morning man at Providence’s WPRO-630 and also did local children’s shows on Providence television in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

If iHeart does flip WDGE-102.1 to Adult Contemporary (after five-and-a-half weeks of all-Christmas), they can fill two dayparts of their broadcast schedule with shows syndicated by sister company Premiere Networks: the newly-syndicated Brooke and Jubal for morning drive, and Delilah at night.

Brooke and Jubal aren’t yet in the Dallas/Fort Worth…[Read more]

    • 1. It’s KDGE.
      2. Delilah is not getting dumped into Dallas again. Even if it is a Premiere show. Her affiliates in large markets have dropped off significantly over the last almost 8 years.
      3. Brooke and Jubal don’t have their own custom playlists. That’s the affiliates’ job.

What I can see Beasley do is run a format of contemporary Spanish-language music on WRCA-1330/106.1.

While according to the Radio-Locator.com signal map (http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/patg?id=W231BI-FX&s=C), the 106.1 signal would be very weak in the heavily Hispanic Lawrence area and nonexistent in heavily-Hispanic Worcester, it would[Read more]
