A reliable rumor is that Americas Best Music is going to drop all DJs as a cost cutting cure. This may happen as early as late August. So if you like the station you should record some to keep forever or it will be lost forever.

Hi everyone, I posted my query on the local area board but thought I’d ask fellow fans of the ABM format for help as well. Is there a list of stations that used to carry ABM? I ask because I listened in the early 2000’s and I can no longer remember that station’s call letters. The station served the Lafayette, LA area but I believe they broadcasted from one of the outlying towns like Crowley or Opelousas. I love the ABM jingle and it’s driving me nuts that I can’t remember the call letters at the end. KSIG maybe? The only format history I can find is from this decade.

Thanks for any help in advance. And thanks to the poster that mentioned WDEA. All of my ABM presets on TuneIn went away. Took a shot with WDEA and love it so much I’ve downloaded the app on 3 separate devices. I never download an app for just one station. And the audio quality is so good! Only bummer is when they broadcast baseball instead of music.

QuoteIf it will help, KSIG is licensed to Crowley.

A 50,000-watt station on 1550 (even if non-directional) won’t reach as far (especially during daytime hours) as a 50,000-wat station on 660. If KVOV-1550 had been on 660 (or a similar “low” AM frequency) with a 50,000-watt non-directional daytime signal, it’s daytime signal would reach Seattle and maybe even to the north.

QuoteI missed this one somehow:  I used to hear KXL just fine in north Seattle.  When I was in college, they said that 1KW at the bottom of the dial was roughly equivalent to 43KW at the top!

It was in fact KSIG. Found the info on a sister station Wikipedia page.

Just as an FYI, KSIG (Sunny 95.1) now has an app that streams a nice mix of some ABM artists and traditional oldies. Wish it was still a true ABM affiliate but it’s nice to know a gentle mix of music is still around in the area.
