The Sacramento Bee is reporting that Don Yee a sports agent from Sacramento was the target of the rant.
BOSTON A Boston sports radio host who impersonated a sports agent on air using a stereotyped Asian accent has been suspended for five days.
Radio station WEEI says in a statement it doesn’t support host Christian Fauria’s “insensitive and ill-conceived attempt at humor.” The former tight end for the New England Patriots was impersonating athletic agent Don Yee when he used the racially charged accent on his weekday show Friday.
Fauria says he “made a horrible attempt at humor” and supports the station’s decision to discipline him.
Yee is of Chinese descent but was born in Sacramento, California. He represents athletes including Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and receiver Julian Edelman.
Entercom’s other stations: WEEI AM (all ESPN), WAAF, WMJX, WODS, WWBX. A reminder that WRKO is now iHeart.Maybe there are some talk heavy hosts on WAAF…So if you’re looking for VB, Kim, or Kuhner to take this training (Howie is syndicated), ask iHeart. But yes Entercom could have done this with all of their local outlets at least.
Entercom Boston should have had all of it’s employees take this sensitivity training, not just those at WEEI-93.7.
Still writin’ a lot and sayin’ nothin’? Entercom didn’t step in until big advertisers started bailing and the Massachusetts attorney general got involved. Even the Boston Red Sox made their displeasure with WEEI known to the highest levels of Entercom.
Nothing scares a broadcaster more than the government threatening their livelihood.
