Kris Pickel leaving WKYC for Phoenix
Angelica Campos leaving WJW for San Diego

    They will both be missed.

Both are headed west (Pickel to Phoenix, Campos to San Diego)

WJW is knee deep in meteorologists, so they’re set.

Pickel leaving is a little different, as she’s a primary anchor, but channel 3 has a decent bench (AM anchor Lynna Lai or weekend AM anchor Sara Shookman could fill the spot reasonably well).

WJW will more than likely still hire a replacement for Angelica.

Remember that, out of the seven meteorologists they have – Dick Goddard, Andre Bernier, Melissa Mack, Scott Sabol, AJ Colby, Angelica and Sally Bernier – Dick is now effectively in a ceremonial position with the 6pm weeknight slot, and Sally does swing/fill-in work, mainly on holidays.

Plus they have 65 1/2 hours of newscasts per week to cover… Angelica does share morning duties alongside Scott for three days of the week, with Melissa and Andre as the evening workhorses.

Recorded in Ultra Stereo, the ultimately superior cousin to Normal Stereo!

I figured a California gal like Kris would not stay here long.

Poor Angelica must have realized she would never see primetime duties since Dick and Andre are apparently planning to stay until hell freezes over. Also, forecasting the weather in San Diego is probably a little easier – sunny and 75 today, sunny and 75 tomorrow, etc. I will miss her.

And it was announced this morning that weekend AM anchor Sara Shookman will take her place alongside Russ Mitchell.

I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day.

“19 Action News” may be going away soon.

We’ve kicked that around for some time, but Lance right here at RI has noted new domain registrations by Raycom, Friday, for “Cleveland19News” and similar variations.

Much more in the AM…don’t know yet if there’ll be an “‘s” in the actual on air branding, or the timing, though the domains being registered mean it’s probably sooner rather than later.

That would get the last little bit of “stank” left to be removed from the Bill Applegate era.

Applegate and Sharon Reed were the faces of the 19 Action News tabloid era. Once they left and Romona Robinson came in, that stuff has been toned WAY down (though it flares up sporadically – more the exception than the rule these days).

BA and SR’s departures + RR’s prim and proper style + the new set + losing the 19 Action News branding = a complete image reinvention for WOIO/WUAB’s news dept.

What about some of the other personalities from the Applegate era still at 19/43? Are any of them staying put with “Cleveland’s 19 News?”

Also, Josh Boose is no longer at WEWS. What more changes could be taking place at 5?

Add to that a new standardized graphics package from Raycom’s new design hub in Charlotte. Sister stations WTOL/Toledo and WXIX/Cincinnati have already implemented that new look, and WOIO should be switching over with the rebrand.

I would place this overhaul at or near the end of the May sweeps (TBH, I personally would prefer “Cleveland’s 19 News” over “Cleveland 19 News” … but that’s just me).

Jason Nicholas will be manning the weather desk on GMC for the next few weeks, as Tera Blake is now on maternity leave.

New addition Janessa Webb is doing weekend PM, and erstwhile fill-in Elisa Malinovitz is doing Sat AM. Webb will do Sat AM once Blake returns, and Nicholas goes back to weekend PM

Terrence Lee and Kristin Byrne seemed to have settled in as the new GMC anchor team (Byrne actually does Tue-Sat mornings, while Dhomonique Ricks from “The Now” does Mondays to give Byrne the day off).

Frank Wiley has joined longtime weekend PM anchor Tracy Carloss to form a 2-person anchor team in that slot.

And WEWS brought in former OSU star/former NBA player/current Warrensville Hts mayor Brad Sellers and ESPN reporter/former ABJ and PD Cavs writer Brian Windhorst to be Cavs analysts (remember ABC carries the NBA Finals, so – knock on wood – should the Cavs make it, WEWS will be…dare I say…”all in”).

Isn’t there supposed to be another weeknight anchor to join Live on Five, and another morning anchor to join GMC? I know the morning news show is getting a second weather person to form a two-person team.

Frank comes from WGCL in Atlanta. He’s a great addition to WEWS. Also, the Twitter account for The Now Cleveland has now been deleted. A shakeup coming?

Angelica Campos is leaving Fox 8 for KGTV in San Diego to become chief meteorologist. KGTV is owned by Scripps, which also owns WEWS.

A.J. Colby moves to full-time appearing weekend mornings and three mornings during the week.

Jenn Harcher from WOIO/WUAB will likely take over weekend evenings as she’ll move from 19/43 to Fox 8 part-time.

When did she leave 19/43 and join FOX part-time wknd evenings? Need a score card to keep track on everybody.

Looks like WEWS has moved recent hire Frank Wiley to the co-anchor spot on Live on Five alongside station institution Lee Jordan, with Chris Flanagan and Danita Harris forming a traditional 6 and 11p news team.

Both Wiley and Jordan also now do reporting on the 11p news.
