Fox is reportedly not going to bid on the Tribune stations that are in the process of being purchased by Nexstar.  What could that mean for WJW?

Also, “Pickler and Ben” won’t be returning to WEWS in the fall as the show has now been cancelled.

Also during the earnings call, Scripps Local Media President Brian Lawlor elaborated on the company’s decision to cancel its “Pickler & Ben” talk show, effective in September.

“When both NBC and ABC decided to return to the daytime talk show business, both networks committed distribution of their shows on their owned and operated stations,” Lawlor said. “That locked us out of some of the nation’s top markets. This led “Pickler & Ben” with no path for distribution growth into the largest U.S. cities, a path we’ve counted on to grow the show.”

I’d bet Mark “Munch” Bishop will take Camino’s slot as a stopgap – keeping in mind that the Cavs still have a few more games, and the Indians are going to start their season within the next couple of weeks, so there’s no real need to have a full time evening guy until October (hopefully late October).

Munch is pretty busy with his afternoon show on WARF/1350, simulcast on WNIO/1390 and WNCO/1340, but done IIRC from the Independence facility. He literally just walks down the hall to the WTAM studios at 6pm whenever filling in for Nick already. But he’s also emerged as Mike Snyder’s primary fill-in in morning drive (meaning his “Munch on Sports” sportscasts are again heard on Majic and WMMS whenever he fills in).

Or maybe Greg Brinda as well…..is he still around at WTAM?

Never heard anything about Greg leaving the station, he’s mostly around during the Indians and Browns seasons. He’s my choice for assuming all of Nick’s duties. Another option is Bruce Hooley, he’s available after iHeart flipped “105.7 The Zone” in Columbus back to classic rock as “The Brew” a few weeks ago.

With Tribe baseball about to begin, evenings can probably be handled by committee until the season is over. Greg Brinda was doing the 10th inning show after most of the games last year.  I assume he will be doing it again this year.
By the way, what ever happened to Michael Reghi?  Is he still around?

I know Reghi did some MAC Football games for ESPN Plus (online/syndicated service) this past season (working with former Buckeye/NFLer and current 92.3 PMD guy Dustin Fox) – a gig he’s actually had for awhile now.

Once in awhile he also fills in for Bruce Drennan on STO.

Scripps and Tegna are buying stations, BUT no word on where WJW stands!

Honestly, it’s a safe bet that Nexstar will simply retain WJW now that Fox doesn’t want to bother with a repurchase.

There can at least be some synergy between Fox 8 and the other stations held by the group in Ohio (including former NBC O&O WCMH), and Nexstar has a track record of investing in their stations, something that Tribune and LocalTV didn’t do. WJW is still stuck with a generic Fox set and generic Fox music because it was a line item Tribune didn’t want to put forward.

According to AJ Colby himself on his Facebook page, he will be returning to Fox 8 in the next few weeks.

With over 13 hours of news every weekday, they need all the weather people they can get.  And maybe Andre is planning to retire soon.  He’s looking quite grizzled.

I think Andre is gonna be dragged out the door kicking and screaming. He’s going to end up being the “Dick Goddard” of his generation, being on the air ten years longer than he should have been.
