When Dick Gregory made his first “Tonight Show” appearance (Jack Paar was host), he ended up being invited by Jack to the panel to chat after his routine.

Through the 63-year history of “The Tonight Show”, from Steve Allen through Jimmy Fallon, very, very few stand-up comedians ever get to “sit on the panel” in their first appearance on the show (I think there have only about a half-dozen such occasions; I also think Dick Gregory was the first comedian to “sit on the panel” during his “Tonight” debut).
