I wonder if they could lease some time on an AM station?

No AM signal worth a damn is available. Simple as that.

Listeners are starting to see behind what might be going on behind the scenes over at WLFM.  Saw this on the station’s Facebook page:

I was really confuse why? La Mega 87.7 FM is off the air.

After doing my investigation, I was able to find out that La Mega 87.7 is not a radio station, but a Television channel “6” that was able to broadcast on 87.7 FM Frakingsting Station.

The owner Murray Hill Broadcasting, LLC apply to move to channel 20 on February 9, 2018 and the FCC accepted the application on Tuesday 02/26/2019 .

The application submitted by Murray Hill Broadcasting, LLC engineer subtitle “Nature of Displacement ” WLFM Channel 6 ” better know as 87.7 FM Frakingsting Station La Mega ” is displaces because of the following interference WOUC-TV Channel 6 Cambridge, Ohio.

Murray Hill Broadcasting, LLC requested from the FCC to move to channel 20 digital at its existing licensed facility. Murray Hill Broadcasting, LLC requested a waiver that they will start broadcasting on their new channel as soon as WFMJ-TV channel 20 discontinue operation in Youngstown Ohio.

I Hate to say it but the administration of La Mega is trying to take fools the general public by not telling the truth. Also Murray Hill Broadcasting, LLC never made mention to the public by air or newspaper that they where making this move. Which I have to believe is a violation of the FCC rules.

Once again The people that suffers are the listeners and the pay advertisers that need to be asking what is going on. Why has no one from La Mega or Murray Hill Broadcasting, LLC gone to the local News Paper to explain the current situation ?

Below is a link to the FCC with all the facts.

also click on the Authorization at the upper right hand corner where the FCC issue La Mega or Murray Hill Broadcasting the new contruction Permit .

So it appears that Murray Hill will get a digital LPTV, apparently in the next TV channel repack?

That’s a way to salvage something out of what was always a time-limited venture.  But I find it hard to believe they do not/did not have a “back up” plan for La Mega. Are they streaming? Perhaps they are negotiating for an HD sub or a translator lease? I would think there is money to be made with that service, and money talks. Or is the plan to make the new digital LPTV an audio-only service too, perhaps on one sub-channel? That would be unique. And when will this new LPTV happen?

They are streaming online at its app LAMEGA1, and its website (LaMega877.com).  Don’t know about the HD sub/translator part, know do I know anything about the LPTV audio-only.  I do believe that once WLFM moves to RF 20, which is supposed to be August when WFMJ in Youngstown moves of that position, 87.7 is gone for good!

Wouldn’t be unique. WVIZ has audio only service, CSCN, [Cleveland Sight Center Network] on one of their digital sub-channels 25.9.

An audio-only subchannel on a digital rendition of WLFM would be a novel idea. It just wouldn’t be receivable in any basic radio.

To be blunt, it’s very obvious that TSJ Media had no backup plan whatsoever, and were going to use their status as a commercial Spanish-language radio station in an attempt to get political pressure with the FCC to keep it an analog operation.

I wonder if they could lease some time on an AM station?

They could probably buy a few hours on WHK AM1420 on Sundays as WHK has some different things on Sundays.  Maybe the large power AM1220 might be available.  They put on some play-by-play sports even though, as “The Word”, they are focused on preaching/teaching talk.
Then there’s WCPN on, once again, during Sunday.

Can they get the old 1040 AM frequency? Better than nothing.

Nope. The FCC is not in the business of relicensing daytimer signals.

And in deference to TSJ, James Taylor was apparently content with running WJTB into the ground and losing it all for nothing, no amount of money could have netted the signal when it was available.

Wasn’t WCPN’s ethnic programming blocks a condition of their license? They tried to curtail some of those blocks 20 years ago and nearly lost funding at the state level.

Buying airtime on Sundays is a move of last resort. You had a 24/7 format that was rated (but didn’t register) and now have to peddle a few hours on a station with a totally different format.

There’s nothing to “negotiate” with WOUC over. Unless WOUC’s digital records change, they aren’t going to temporarily create a directional null our way to make a soon-to-be-gone FrankenFM happy.

Give me a break. This smells of either a long-term scam or of gross incompetence by La Mega. Or both.

If they were this ill-prepared for a move that was obvious and fated years in advance, then maybe they don’t deserve to operate a station.

WLFM is now applying to get Channel 6/87.7 back on the air, but at three watts!  Good luck with that one.

There’s also an application for suspension of operations for WLFM too.
