    Yes no doubt means Levin off RKO;
No idea who replaces him.And they want to clear some Fox Sports shows here just as they did for awhile on 1510 (who also ran NBCSports and
Yahoo Sports for awhile).Just to clear the shows;ratings won’t matter. A loss leader as other stations in the cluster make money.
Maybe they tried to sell 1430 and nobody wanted it.

So in the end 1430 will debut before Answer1260,if that indeed is Salem’s plan, and neither station will have huge audiences. Another year or even in a few short months,
1260,1430,or 1510 may just turn to something else.

Just sucky. First Rush now Levin. Where are the brains at Entercom anyway? Look, talk radio MAY be showing signs of age, but those two are the BEST national talkers.

I wish unClear Channel would dump those AMs with zero reach. Even better if they’d just go away.

The song remains the same: follow the money.

As Nathan keeps pointing out (albeit without quite getting the numbers right), the price tag to Entercom to carry Rush on WRKO is roughly $1.2 million a year – $500,000 in cash for the rights fee and another $700,000 of potential revenue that it gives up to Premiere in barter inventory. That’s a lot of money out the door before the first cent of revenue goes into Entercom’s pockets.

Kuhner will work much cheaper – if he’s being paid $100,000 a year he’s probably being paid too much – and so even if WRKO’s gross revenues go down, it will almost inevitably net more without Rush than it does now. That’s not even figuring in the added revenue Entercom might book with a better morning show than Kuhner, even more so if the Globe ends up picking up some/all of the production costs of the new morning offering.

When a 2.5 share looks good (and it does, compared to the 1.5 over the winter), you’re not in the business of million-dollar hosts anymore, at least not if you’re going to make money from them. Multiply that times 500 markets and you see what Premiere will be facing when they figure out what they can offer Rush for his contract renewal next year.

    Scott,

As usual, you bring a calmative perspective to all this mania, and it’s difficult to argue with you.

But that doesn’t change the fact that I’m beginning to dislike modern radio broadcasting more and more, since it is indeed all about “the money”. Listeners be damned, I guess.

And if unClearChannel’s 1430 tanks – as I suspect it almost has to, given that its signal is far inferior to that of 1200 or even Salem’s 590, then how does its parent make any money?

As I stated – losing Rush is bad enough, but Levin, too? He’s not even part of that dysfunctional unCC family!!

I hate to break it to you, but it’s always been about the money. Radio is a business, not a hobby.

You mean, those old shows didn’t tell folks about Chesterfields and General Tire for the hell of it? I’m shocked.

    >>Radio is a business

    Mrs Carlson,WKRP owner:Young man,
this radio station is a business. It is not here for your personal listening pleasure!

Andy Travis: Ma’am I know it’s a business. That’s why I had to change the format.

And if you doubt that, just look through this 1948 issue of Broadcasting!

    Love the 2-page WEEI ad.

For what it’s worth, Entercom consistently has the top three stations in 12-plus ratings in Greensboro, NC and in February the top four.

I know we’re told not to pay attention to 12-plus, but this has to mean something.

Somebody had better damned well be wrong about Mark Levin going to 1430 since he recently signed on till 2020 with Cumulus not unCC. AFAIK, he’s still heard on WABC (Cumulus) in NYC, not WOR (unCC).

I, on the other hand, have gone to iHateCC.

Mark Levin isn’t leaving his long term WestwoodOne/Cumulus deal. WKOX picking up his show has no bearing on that… several iHeart talkers still carry his show (although quite a few dropped Levin for what was then Andy Dean’s show, now hosted by WOAI’s Joe Pags).

Recorded in Ultra Stereo, the ultimately superior cousin to Normal Stereo!

And what’s ‘RKO’s excuse for letting that pipsqueak 1430 take Levin?

The same reasons that WKRO let Savage go to WMEX. WRKO isn’t owned by Cumulus or iHeart, and thus isn’t mandated to carry shows from either provider.
