Is Don Huff still at WBZ?

The login box issue should be resolved. If you are still having issues you can still use the alternate link, but please inform us so we can investigate.

The question has been asked on Facebook as to whether Boston-Portland news veteran Don Huff is still doing anchor work at WBZ.   I haven’t heard him lately, but then I was out of state for a couple of weeks.

Good question; I haven’t heard him of late, either. Various other anchors, e.g., Art Cohen, Suzanne Sallsville (sp?) have been covering that day (night) part.
Now, supposedly, Doug Cope has retired, but he was on today doing the noon to 6:00 PM shift, and I, for one, was happy to hear him once again. I’m hoping they bring him back.
Charlie Sherman (!) was doing sports one or two days this past week, and does a really fine job, dare I say it, better than T Cuddy, IMHO. It’s Charlie’s newscasts that go over-the-top, since his delivery style is much better suited to sports than straight news.
Laurie Kirby was out the week of july 4th; understandable. Heard her on Tuesday the 9th, then no more this past week. On one of these days, Ben Parker was anchoring EACH HALF HOUR himself between about 4:30 till 8:00.
And on Friday, Dave Struffolino must’ve spent over 13 hours(!) doing Traffic on The Threes all day.
What IS going on there, anyway?
    Heard Mike Macklin lately, either?
Aw, what the heck? Still miss Josh Binswanger’s calm delivery.

Looks like we got our answer this evening (Tuesday 23 July) at 7:00 when Don Huff took to the WBZ airwaves.

I heard Don on Tuesday evening as well.   Good to hear his voice again.  He’s been on the air in eastern New England for a long time.

nowradioguy, I got a kick out of the exclamation mark after your reference to Charlie Sherman.   I like Charlie’s delivery a lot — he is, shall we say,  expressive (if not occasionally dramatic!).  I don’t know anything about his background.   Can anyone fill me in?

I understand he was a news anchor on Binney Media’s TV channel (50?) in Derry, NH before Binney sold the spectrum space to the federal government a few years ago. Sherry Small also worked there as a reporter. Sherry made the transition to WBZ Radio rather well: she’s a very good reporter and, after some time, became a good anchor as well.
My thing with Charlie Sherman (!) is he is overly emotive while delivering news on the radio. As I mentioned, this serves him well when delivering sports reports, to which I wish WBZ would confine him.

Good question. He seems to have just disappeared and, AFAIK, has not shown up anywhere else, at least locally.
As I recall, he had a deep, almost booming, voice and talked fast, sometimes to the point of not being understandable.
You’d think someone here should know.
