I’m late to this, but KFWR (95.9 The Ranch) tweaked its playlist about a week ago, adding a handful of “mainstream” songs and even a bit of Classic Rock (with the secondary positioning of “Alternative Country”). That move prompted a big backlash among the station’s fans–even though other listeners were supportive, and the consensus among analysts was that the changes were both appropriate and not huge. Indeed, the backlash may have now resulted in the station reversing course.
The tweaks were perhaps first noted by Saving Country Music–which has also had subsequent updates (including about the apparent reversal). However, you may want to glance at all of the links below, to get a feel about why the changes were made in the first place–and about the scope of the backlash.
