I hate to start new threads. This “fits” here . . . . It’s Official as of November 17, 2017 — Entercom And CBS Radio Merge Full Reported story here on All Access https://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/171562/it-s-official-entercom-and-cbs-radio-merge CEO David Field’s memo to employees here on Radio Insight: https://radioinsight.com/headlines/121072/entercom-completes-cbs-radio-merger/ Guess Entercom will be clearing out the Holly Hill Road digs and complete the move to The Citadel on N.E. Second Ave. That story is on the South Florida Biz Journal at https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/news/2017/01/03/radio-broadcasting-company-to-move-104-employees.html I am sure format flips and job consolidations (just in time for the Holiday Season) are forthcoming. Prayers and hopes everyone lands on their feet.

It’s funny after reading the old string from 2015. Made it sound like Entercom was going to totally dismantle the old LFM.  I guess that never really happened.  Sure, they made some format flips and tweaked the old Magic, but overall, they seem to be doing well.  I’m looking forward to them fixing Power 96.

    It’s no surprise…

The axes begin to fall at Entercom Miami. Rob Sidney updated his Facebook page. He is now the former Director/Programming & Operations, 101.5 LITE FM (WLYF-FM) & TodaysLifeMiami.com (WLYF HD2). He was there for almost 28 years.  Kimba is the Asst. PD. Will she be promoted, demoted, or axed? Hope not. But Sidney won’t be the last, that is for sure.

This move makes unfortunate sense in today’s climate.  You fire the guy in charge of one station (and probably making a nice amount of money) so you can hire another guy to handle BOTH your stations (Beach & Lite) at a reduced rate.  Lite has always done really well, usually beating the attacker of Easy93 (Cox.)  Lite still wins the market with cume and in 25-54 numbers.  The 6+ figures we see on line do not show the much older demo that Easy has compared to Lite.

Now that the PD is changed, look for more voice tracking, especially nights and weekends.  Prediction: the 8pm-12m guys who also work the weekend will be canned.  John Tesh moves to the evening slot.  Overnight gets voice tracked.  Weekends will mostly be voice tracked by the current full timers and some others who can handle it in the building.

Yes. In addition to Rob Sidney at Lite, Entercom blew out WSFS 104.3’s Zach McHugh, (https://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/170953/wsfs-104-3-the-shark-miami-md-pm-drive-zach-mchugh) who was only there three months (September to December). Zach is already wiped off the Shark’s website and it looks like Will (Althoff) from Lite’s weekend staff is filling in afternoons. The Shark is searching for a (cheaper) MD — I’d bet or most likely, will consolidate the job in someway with someone already in the building.

Don’t forget, as this tread states at the beginning (Doug Abernathy at), Entercom said when they first picked up the Entercom stations: “I can do/run it cheaper.” And so they are . . . The cuts started at Entercom (and CBS) at first announcement of the merger.  Now that’s its done, it’s only going to get worse.

Looking at the Entercom Miami sites and, yeah…. and the after 7 PM weekdays/weekenders …. Steve Young, Jack Shell, Will Althoff at Lite; Todd Allen, Greg Stewart, and Cierra at the Beach; and Erin, Hobart, Spanish, and Mel at the Shark are all on the bubble. There are a wide array of voice track shows out there in all three formats (such as John Tesh on Lite) to cover the 7 to 12 slot, overnights, and weekends…if not off air supporters who can voice track (cheaper). Hope not. Being fired during the holidays is no fun. But remember, it’s all about money, not talent in this case. But there will be a house cleaning for sure.

Right now, I believe John O Connell PD both the Shark and the Beach. Not into or up on what the deal is with WAXY “The Ticket.”
