Per the Tommy Show Facebook page, the Tommy Show 2.0 is making an announcement tomorrow (2/20) on their Facebook Page at 7am. The show will continue to feature Tommy McFly and Kelly Collis, both formerly of WIAD, and there has been teases that segments from the old show such as the morning quiz Can’t Beat Kelly will be returning to the show.
Question: Will this be an indicator of where Hot AC is going in the DC market after the exit of the format on Entercom’s WIAD 94.7 and the imminent exit of the format on Cumulus’s WRQX 107.3?
Tommy McFly and Kelly Collis will be launching a Tommy Show streaming service, which will stream their show live from DC at 7am starting Monday 2/25 with repeats through the day. They also have a license to stream music and it will be a curated list “that sounds like DC today.” The show will be streamed via an app on iTunes and Google Play and a live stream at http://listen.streamon.fm/tommy
Especially with the benefit of hindsight, this move isn’t very surprising: Entercom was the company that let the show go, and so likely wouldn’t rehire them–even if it ended up with the Mix-related IP. (And, along those lines, maybe they wouldn’t want to return to that company.) That likely would’ve just left iHeart as a potential new employer–and it probably doesn’t feel the need to make changes at WASH. Besides, an online-only show would be a good match for a market like D.C.
Separately, it looks like Jen Richer won’t be part of the revived show; at the very least, she’s not mentioned on the show’s site.
I didn’t get a chance to compile these earlier, but here are plenty of items concerning today’s announcement. (Not only is the show using various products/services from Futuri, but it also has new imaging from ReelWorld.)
