Forgive my ignorance, but…what are the “offensive” lyrics in this song? I truly have no idea.

It’s a manufactured publicity stunt so people tune into WDOK for Christmas music instead of Majic or The Fish. Nothing more.

And judging by all the media coverage over this song, WDOK got a ton of free advertising. It worked and most everyone fell for it.

Banning things (even if this is stunt, which I agree is very likely) … and firing people when they express an opinion is a new normal and is not good for freedom of speech.

Now if I could only get them to play John Valby’s “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Syphilis”……

The fact that Fox News (including Tucker “Frozen Face” Carlson) have gone out of their way to mention what WDOK did just shows how easily those people get so deeply offended over a move like that. It’s ridiculous. Cartoons have far and away more subtlety.

That’s why I have the cynical hat on; regardless of how outraged people are, it’s free publicity for WDOK. Most of the aggrieved either 1) never heard of the station until two days ago, 2) don’t live in Cleveland and/or 3) wouldn’t be in WDOK’s target audience anyway.

All that being said, it really does cheapen the whole MeToo dealio quite a bit. I really would have expected WDOK to do better than that. But that’s just my opinion.

This is no big deal.  Radio has been filtering out things that they deem offensive since the very first broadcast signal was fired up.  In 2018 the influence of radio means less than it ever has before.  If “Baby It’s Cold Outside” is a song you’ve been dying to hear,  go ahead and pull it up on YouTube and listen to your heart’s content 365 days a year.
