Son of Ghoul is being shown on W16DO-D right now. Glad to finally see his show with their new signal.

I pick them up with an indoor antenna. Does anybody else notice an often dark and dull looking picture that is a bit blurry? When there are darkly textured shots in movies and TV shows that are shown, sometimes I can’t see a thing.

These are very specialized niche channels…not sure if they’ll see the light of day here.

As is we have the big 4 classic TV networks (Me, Antenna, Cozi, Retro), 5 specialty networks (Bounce, Grit, Escape, Laff, Justice) 2 movie networks (Get TV, Movies), all the extra networks that come with PBS, ION, and TBN, Unimas on 61.2, and the all Angley all the time channel on 55.2.

    Things are kinda crowded.

Retro TV’s schedule seems quite lame, especially in the evening. I tuned in last Thursday evening to watch Dusty’s Trail (it was supposed to be on at 6:00 pm according to RetroTV schedule on the web), but there was some kind of local sports talk show on instead. Hopefully Retro will revise their schedule or maybe 16 can switch to another classic network. I’m not familiar with all the other networks listed above, but I would think there are others that might be better.

Me, Antenna, and Cozi got all the good stuff, and Retro had to go to the classic TV dollar store to fill out their schedule.

The local sports talk show is hosted by Steve French, who is an institution in Akron as part of the WNIR morning show, and as the voice of the Akron Zips.

He’s been doing that weekly show on 29/35 (now 16) forever – long before Retro TV came along (remember 16/29, WNIR, and WJMP Kent/Akron/Timbuktu are all owned by the Klaus family).

The sports talk show that was on last Thursday was not Steve French, it was an old, bald guy.

It was Jim Isabella who has an evening show on 100.1 WNIR.

Sorry…I thought you were talking about French’s Monday show, which he’s done forever.

Jim Isabella has been a longtime area newspaper sportswriter and radio personality, bouncing around all over the place. He became WNIR’s evening host a couple of years ago after the death of longtime evening host Tom Erickson.

This is the first I’ve heard of them doing a Thursday show…might have just been a Cavs thing.

    W16DO

Here is Jim Isabella. You just can’t see his face under the display. Also, the logo is now changed to 16/29. Also note that the program info is wrong, and the clock is an hour behind still. One thing I won’t complain about is that the signal is a heck of a lot better here in Akron… before…

I don’t think their equipment is very good.

And some of the public domain source material is pretty rough to begin with!

The Klaus Family isn’t known for being big spenders on equipment, and Retro is the worst of the major classic networks.

    Double Whammy.

Decades network seems to have some decent programming. Maybe it will pop up in Cleveland eventually.

Decades is a spinoff of Me TV, and kinda has a vibe of A&E’s old “Biography” show about it.
