Greater Media debuted the new format on 105.1 WMGC-FM at noon today as the station flipped to Classic Hip-Hop “105.1 The Bounce“.
Debuting the new format with the usual 10,000 songs commercial-free, the new format fills a vacancy between the two Urbans, two Urban ACs, two CHRs, and one Hot AC in the market. The station intends to focus on music from the 1990s and 2000s. The station launched with Eminem’s “Real Slim Shady”, Notorious B.I.G’s “Hypnotize” and Mark Morrison’s “Return Of The Mack” as its first three songs.
WMGC-FM will remain the flagship for the NBA’s Detroit Pistons for the 2016-17 season as it runs out its contract with the franchise. The station dropped its nearly three year old Sports format on Wednesday evening.

Yes!!!! LOVE the name, but the logo…ehhh…it could be tweaked a bit.
I bet Mr. Everett is happy to see another “rap oldies” station launch…
I hope The Bounce will change its call letters, From WMGC to WBNC.
Call letters are Government-Speak. 105.1 The Bounce is the station name for public consumption.
That’s a radio person talking. Real people know what call letters are – there’s 80+ years of their use to ID the station. These monikers like “The XXXX” are stupid radio speak.
I’ll put money on the fact that you’re wrong about “Real people know what call letters are”.
In the 13 years that I’ve been in Milwaukee, nobody has referred to 103.7 Kiss FM as “WXSS”. When I programmed Star 105 in Illinois, there wasn’t a single person that referred to the station as “WZSR”.
9 times out of 10, people will refer to a station by dial position if they don’t refer to it by it’s “promoted” name (“I listen to 97.5” or “I like 620”).
“Real people” have no idea what call letters are for anymore.
Nope.
Locally, the TV stations are referred to by their calls or over the air virtuals – 19/WLTX, 25/WOLO, 10/WIS, the local country station is either 97.4 or WCOS, the top 40 station is either 104, 104.7 or WNOK, the newstalk is 560, AM 56 or WVOC.
Radio people from major markets are pretty clueless about the rest of America. Everyday people here know that the iHeart stations are all “prerecorded” and I’ve even heard non-radio people say “voice track.”
It is myopic to think otherwise.
Moreover, you assume that people in Chicago have no idea that WGN or WLS are call letters.
Give me a break.
