After seven months on 100.1, Magic Broadcasting Rock “97X” WYYX has returned to its primary home on 97.7 Bonifay FL following the repair of its antenna.
The antenna for 97.7 was destroyed by a lightning strike in on July 31, 2016. Once it was known that the repairs would take awhile, the Rock format was moved to what was then Rhythmic Oldies “Groove 100.1” WVVE. The 12kW/123m Class C3 signal covered Panama City and adjacent towns, but not as much of the region as the 100kW/253m Class C1 97.7.
For ratings purposes, WVVE and WYYX swapped call letters in November, but now with 97X back on 97.7 Magic Broadcasting has applied to move the WYYX calls back to 97.7. However, WVVE will be retired in favor of WWLY. We reported last month on the likely new format and brand name for 100.1 once WYYX moved back to 97.7.
Original Report 8/10/2016: After a lightning strike last week took Magic Broadcasting Rock “97X” 97.7 WYYX Bonifay/Panama City FL off the air, the station’s format has been temporarily moved to 100.1 WVVE Panama City Beach.
The move displaces the programming of Rhythmic Oldies “Groove 100.1“, which is currently being made available online. In the STA filing with the FCC, WYYX states that the tower experienced lightning damage on July 31 and
does not expect to resume operations within 30 days.
The Class C3 signal of WVVE covers much less terrain than WYYX, but does reach Panama City itself.
