Beasley Media Variety Hits “95.7 Ben-FM” WBEN-FM Philadelphia will debut a new morning show hosted by Matt Cord and Kristen Herrmann on Tuesday, January 3.
Cord joins WBEN-FM from sister Rock 93.3 WMMR where he has hosted nights since 2005. He also hosted afternoons at Alternative “Y100” WPLY. Herrmann is Production Director for WBEN-FM and hosted middays at the station. The duo replace Marilyn Russell, who exited when Beasley took over the station from Greater Media in November.
Overnighter Jacky Bam Bam will move to nights at WMMR.
Might this be a sign of things to come, perhaps Alternative, RFF is really not Alternative. I know BEN is super cheap to run and makes bucks, but Cord is a genuine Alternative jock from his early days, plus Alternative would be sandwiched between other properties, MMR Active and MGK Classic, with little overlap.
How is WRFF not Alternative? It is the poster child for how the format sounds in 2016.
And BEN-FM is NOT flipping.
I would submit that WRFF’s sister station KYSR/LA is probably the poster child for the format as it evolved from Hot AC to Modern AC to Alternative. WRFF is a close second.
The heritage alternatives: KROQ, KITS, etc. have been struggling to leave the grunge/nu-metal baggage behind and evolve with the music.
Or he could be a talent who can handle adult hits that already has a fair dose of older alternative tunes.
