After five days of stunting with a loop of Tone Loc’s Wild Thing, Mapleton Communications has launched Rhythmic CHR “Wild 99.3” KWLZ Shasta Lake City/Redding CA.
Launching jockless with the usual 10,000 songs in a row commercial-free, the new “Wild 99.3” is being programmed by Mapleton’s Regional PD Tommy Del Rio. Del Rio, based at “101.7 The Beach” KCDU Monterey, also programs the company’s CHRs in Chico and Spokane.
The station gives an in-market competitor to Results Radio’s “Power 94” 94.7 KEWB Shasta Lake.
Original Report 1/15: Mapleton Communications’ 99.3 KQMS-FM Shasta Lake City/Redding CA is stunting with a loop of Tone Loc’s Wild Thing.
The station had been simulcasting sister News/Talk 1670 KQMS Redding/105.7 K289BT Anderson CA. That station has added a second translator 104.9 K285FE Redding to fill in some coverage holes. KQMS had swapped frequencies with what is now Sports 1400 KNRO Redding.
Mapleton has applied for new KWLZ call letters for KQMS-FM.
