KQJK made its previously announced move to Classic Rock “93.7 The River” at 12:00 this morning.
Postioning as “Classic Rock Redefined”, the station is focusing on Rock hits from the late 70s through early 2000s with core artists including Aerosmith, Green Day, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
iHeartMedia Sacramento announced today the debut of 93.7 The River, the River City’s New Classic Rock. The station launched at 12:01 a.m. on April 3, 2017.
93.7 The River will broadcast music from an array of classic rock icons, including Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses, Queen, Journey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana and Northern California’s own Green Day. The station will also feature longtime Sacramento personalities The Dog & Joe Show, Monica Lowe and Derek Moore as well as nationally syndicated personality and former Motley Crue member Nikki Sixx.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring 93.7 The River to the River City,” said Curtiss Johnson, Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Sacramento. “93.7 The River is built on The Dog & Joe Show, a destination morning show with two wildly creative and beloved personalities, a redefined take on Classic Rock for 2017 and a passion and commitment to community we’ve embraced and called home for many years. 93.7 The River, a radio station uniquely crafted for Sacramento.”
“Having a new station like 93.7 The River built around your show is a rush few get to experience in their careers,” said Craig “Dog” Stalians. “Joe and I are humbled and flattered to be able to work with the insanely talented people at iHeartMedia Sacramento at a rock station that is uniquely Sacramento, right down to the station name. It’s going to be epic.”
Original Report 3/24: iHeartMedia will be dropping Variety Hits on “93.7 Jack-FM” KQJK Roseville/Sacramento CA in favor of Classic Rock as “93.7 The River” in early April.
As announced in a meeting to the staff today, the new format will feature an on-air lineup of names familiar to the market and all recently working at Entercom’s cluster. “The Dog and Joe Show” hosted by ‘Craig The Dog Faced Boy’ and Joe Maumee and until recently in afternoons at Active Rock “98 Rock” 98.5 KRXQ will host mornings. Monica Lowe, longtime DJ at 100.5 KQPT/KZZO, and for the past eight years working in Creative Services for Entercom Sacramento will host middays. Derek Moore, former night host at Classic Rock “Eagle 96.9” KSEG and APD at Sports “ESPN 1320” KCTC, will host afternoons and serve as Digital Program Director for iHeartMedia Sacramento. The syndicated Sixx Sense will be heard at night.
KQJK ranked twelfth in the Sacramento market with a 3.2 share in the February 2017 Nielsen Audio ratings. The new format will position it up against Entercom’s combo of Classic Rock KSEG with its 7.5 share and Rock KRXQ with its 4.1 share. The addition of former Entercom staff should not come as a surprise as iHeartMedia Sacramento SVP/Programming Curtiss Johnson previously spent two decades programming the aforementioned KRXQ and KSEG.

I was thinking that iHeartMedia had plans to launch a Top 40/CHR station in Sacramento due to the possible revocation of 107.9 The End before Entercom decided to turn the license to the FCC.
