After going silent in May, 1580 WDQN Du Quoin IL has returned to the air under the management of Jeff Egbert’s Pinckneyville Press and DuQuoin Weekly.
The station relaunched on Monday, July 24 at 5:30am. The Franklin County News reports that the station will carry a block musical programming format including AC in the daytime, Country at night, Classic Rock overnights, and Christian AC on Sunday mornings. Egbert’s DuQuoin Weekly will relocate into the WDQN offices.
Original Report 5/17: Du Quoin Broadcasting Company Country 1580 WDQN Du Quoin IL ceased operations last Friday becoming yet another AM stations to fall by the wayside.
No explanation was made as to why the station would be ending operations, but as with many low power AMs at the top of the dial (170w day/6.6w nights), its not hard to see what likely lead to the demise of the station. With the opening for an FM translator application coming this summer, the potential does exist for someone to come in and add an FM signal for the station.
WDQN began operating in Du Quoin in 1953 after previously being licensed to nearby Ava as WAVA. It’s FM partner, 95.9 WDQN-FM was sold to Christian operator Three Angels Broadcasting Network in 2003.
Thanks to a couple of local (weekly) newspapers, the station has signed back on this week…
