Lakes Media is returning its “Country Legends” format to 970 WMPW/105.9 W290DA Danville VA on Friday, September 15 at 12:00pm.
The station was previously known as “Country Legends 103.7” from 2012 until its translator moved to 105.9 and the station flipped to AC “105.9 More-FM” last September. The format remained available online and owner Tom Birch stated that listener and advertiser demand for its return along with the overlap with sister AC 95.3 WHLF South Boston VA led to the return of the Classic Country format.
Matt In The Morning’ will move from WMPW to Classic Hits “104.5 The Dan” 1580 WWDN/104.5 W283BN Danville.
Lakes Media LLC today announced that the Country Legends format, popularized in Danville from 2012 to 2016, is returning to Radio after a year of availability only via online and mobile apps. Since September 2016, the Country Legends online stream audience has continued to be more than triple the size of the online audiences to any of the other Lakes Media sister stations, and Danville listeners and advertisers have been actively seeking its return to Radio. Country Legends 105.9 will replace the current Adult Contemporary format of “MOREfm” on the WMPW Radio frequencies of 105.9 FM and 970 AM and can be heard on the TuneIn and iHeartRadio mobile apps and online at CountryLegends1059.com.
MOREfm listeners are being invited to switch to sister Adult Contemporary station WHLF on Radio at 95.3 FM, mobile on the TuneIn and iHeartRadio apps and online at 953HLF.com. 95-3/HLF’s weekday playlist is identical to the MOREfm playlist and its signal strength is comparable to WMPW’s in Danville.
Lakes Media President Tom Birch commented, “The Country Legends format has always been hugely popular with Danville listeners, but weak advertiser support lead us move it to online-only last year. Apparently “absence” truly “makes the heart grow stronger” as both advertisers and listeners have begged for us to return the Country Legends to Radio. Our decision to replace the MOREfm Adult Contemporary format with Country Legends was further predicated on the existing availability of sister Adult Contemporary station 95-3/HLF in Danville. This change enables Lakes Media to better serve a wider array of listeners and advertisers. Country fans will have the Legends back on Radio in Danville and fans of the MOREfm format can continue to enjoy the “Beebe”, Adele, Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift on 95-3/HLF.
“We invite everyone to enjoy our on-air launch party at Noon on Friday with Country Legends 105.9 personalities Butch James, Aaron Stainback, Justin Parrish and Station Manager Justin Lloyd. Danville area listeners can tune in on Radio at 105.9 FM and 970 AM and listeners anywhere in America can listen online at http://CountryLegends1059.com and mobile on the TuneIn and iHeartRadio apps.”
