The Cesar Chavez Foundation’s Farmworker Educational Radio Network is continuing its growth in Phoenix with the purchase of Southwest FM Broacasting’s Beautiful Music 102.1 KAHM and 101.7 K269EE Prescott and Southwest Broadcasting’s Talk 1490 KYCA/97.1 K246BI/103.5 K278CN Prescott AZ for $2.5 million through a new Phoenix Radio Broadcasting holding company.
Phoenix Radio Broadcasting will pay $1.7 million for KAHM and K269EE and $800,000 for co-owned KYCA/K246BI/K278CN. KAHM holds a Construction Permit to relocate to Spring Valley AZ from the tower utilized by Riviera Broadcasting’s “Power 98.3” KKFR Mayer with 25.5kW/852m that requires the move of 94.3 KBUX Quartzsite AZ to 96.5 (now completed) and 101.9 KVGG Salome to 96.5. The buyer will also take on the costs of those moves.
Combined with the combo of recently acquired 860 KNAI Phoenix and 101.9 K270BZ Phoenix will allow the group to cover the entire Phoenix market with full-time commercial signals for its Regional Mexican “La Campesina” network as opposed to its current noncommercial time-share on 88.3 KNAI-FM. The sale of KAHM eliminates one of the last remaining Beautiful Music stations.
Community Communications Inc., owner of Public News/Talk 90.7 WMFE-FM Orlando FL, will expand to Ocala with the purchase of Daystar Public Radio Jazz/Standards “89.5 The Boulevard” WKSG Cedar Creek for $900,000.
Gary Schwedt and James Schubert’s Rocky Mountain Radio Group will acquire Alternative “97.7 The Zephyr” KZYR Avon and AAA “104.7 The Mile” KKVM Vail CO from Cool Radio Inc. for $1 million.
Scott Hennen and Steven Hallstrom are buying out the other five partners in Bakken Beacon Media LLC and its Conservative Talk “1100 The Flag” WZFG Dilworth MN/Fargo ND and “1090 The Flag” KTGO Tioga ND. Hennen will increase his equity stake from 22.6% to 50%, while Hallstrom purchases a 50% stake as Gregory Butler, Eugene Graner, Fred Evans, Kathleen Neset, and Walter Grotte sell their combined 77.4% stakes for $538,130.
Rich Broadcasting sells 102.9 KOUW Island Park ID to Ted Austin’s Snake River Radio for the $163,290.69 remaining on Rich’s promissory note to Austin for the 2011 purchase of 102.1 KCHQ Driggs ID for $535,000.
