WYAY Atlanta Rebrands As Talk 106.7
The move follows the elimination of the station’s final News block in morning drive hosted by Rob Stadler and Cheryl White at the end of 2017. Fill-in talk hosts have been heard in that daypart since. The changed marked the end of the last vestiges of the former All-News format the station debuted in 2012.
WYAY began adding talk shows in place of some of the news blocks in May 2014 with a rebranding from “All News 106.7” to “Newsradio 106.7“. Its 1.7 share in its final monthly with News was nearly identical to the 1.6 share the station held in the Holiday 2017 ratings with Talk, albeit with a much cheaper to staff lineup.
Cumulus Media announces that it has launched its next generation Talk Radio station in Atlanta on WYAY.FM 106.7. The newly branded all-Talk station is now “The New Talk 106.7, Where Atlanta Comes to Talk”. The station announced its new identity this morning on The Shannon Burke Show. The New Talk 106.7 will engage and captivate listeners in relevant, interesting and diverse dialogue on local and national issues that impact the people of Atlanta. The station was formerly branded as “News Radio 106.7”.
The New Talk 106.7 weekday lineup includes: The Shannon Burke Show, 9am-12 Noon; The Kimmer Show, featuring iconic Atlanta personality “The Kimmer”, 12 Noon -3pm; and The Brian Joyce Show in Afternoon Drive from 3pm -6pm. The station plans to announce a new Morning Drive program in the next few weeks.
Cumulus Media-Atlanta Vice President/Market Manager Sean Shannon believes the change from News/Talk to all Talk Radio will be a breath of fresh air for Atlantans. Shannon said: “Talk has become the domain of dogma where hosts are advancing an agenda. The New Talk 106.7 will be a place for honest discourse where our hosts have a perspective, not an agenda.”
Tom Lee, WYAY-FM Program Director, said: “We are committed to a unique, fearless and spirited dialogue on current events and all issues that impact the lives of our listeners. We’ll focus on live, local and relevant topics with strong opinions from some of the nation’s greatest Talk Radio hosts.”
