Entercom has brought the “Alt” brand to another one of its properties.
“FM 94.9” KBZT San Diego has made a minor tweak to its identity and become “Alt 94.9” joining its sister stations in Dallas, New York, and San Francisco utilizing the name. Unlike San Francisco, where the revamp of the former “Live 105” saw the exit of much of its airstaff, no changes have been made on-air other than the station name.
The move is also significant as it indicates Entercom’s potential long term plan to retain the format following the supposed hiring of Dan Sileo from Sports “Mighty 1090” XEPRS to anchor a planned Sports station along with the MLB San Diego Padres play-by-play that was heard on KBZT in 2017.
KBZT registered a 1.9 share in the Holiday 2017 Nielsen Audio ratings, placing it behind Local Media San Diego’s “91X” 91.1 XETRA-FM and its 2.4 share.
Per Mr. Nelson (at http://www.sandiegoradio.org/2018/01/entercom-action-and-theres-lots-of-it.html), there might be a few changes to nights/overnights: KEGY’s Alexia Gloria apparently now also handles KBZT’s nights, while Hamby consequently moves to overnights.
