The FCC has revoked their $20,000 Forfeiture Order to Alaska Educational Radio System’s 88.9 KABN-FM Kasilof AK following the surrender of the station’s license in July. The station had operated at variance from its licensed parameters without authority to do so four times and willfully and went silent on five separate occasions for over 30 days each without an STA. The FCC order also reject the station’s 2014 license transfer application which led to the license surrender.
Alaska Educational Radio System is not completely off the hook though as the FCC is issuing a new $8,000 Forfeiture Order due to discontinuing the operations of K223BJ Eagle River and K283AZ Anchorage on four different occasions without authority to do so. The group was originally issued a $10,000 fine in July for those violations plus those at 107.9 K300BY Willow Creek, but it has reduced the amount following the deletion of that latter license.
The FCC has issued a Notice of Violation to Marion Williams’ 105.5 W288DU Canton MS for operating without a license and originating its own programming. The FCC noted W288DU on the air on June 27 despite not filing for a License to Cover until July 6. The bigger issue is that while the translator’s CP and license indicated it was to rebroadcast 1150 WONG Canton, that station was not operating at the time.
