Enoch Kirkwood and Larry Edwards’ Media One Broadcasting’s Urban “Power 92.3 Jamz” W222AF Marietta/Atlanta GA is off the air following a dispute with Cox Media Group.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Rodney Ho reports that Cox has pulled W222AF’s programming off of 97.1 WSRV-HD3 Gainesville which served as its originating station. Immanuel Broadcasting owner Neil Hopper, who leases the translator to Media One, told Ho that there was a dispute between WSRV and Edwards and the station was taken off the HD channel. Ho writes, “Edwards promised Hopper on Tuesday that the issue will be resolved but he is awaiting an official letter from WSRV confirming that everything is copacetic before turning the signal back on.”
Prior to moving to WSRV-HD3 and launching the brand on W222AF in April, the format was heard on Cumulus Media’s 101.5 WKHX-HD2 as “Jams 101“. While off the air, the format continues to be available online at Power923Jamz.com. Given the competitive landscape in the Atlanta market, it may be hard to find another operator to lease an HD sub-channel from as Entercom, iHeartMedia, Urban One, and Core Communicators all have Urban formatted stations that W222AF competes against.
