“If you wait until you're ready, you'll be waiting the rest of your life.” There’s never a perfect time to pull the trigger on making a major life decision. In this case, the catalyst was a life event that I kept very private. A year ago this week I lost my dad due to a very sudden and aggressive battle with cancer. One of our last conversations dealt with planning for the future. Dad told me the same thing he had being telling me for years; move home and be closer to family. Bet on yourself, because no one is going to work harder than you. It was time to go home. Andrea and I had taken the first steps to get home just months before dad died. In August of 2017 we purchased a construction permit for the last available FM radio frequency in Reading, PA. We were going to do the only thing I think I know how to do: play a bunch of hip hop and make noise on the radio. After months of thinking, praying, and talking with people I trust, I decided today was the day to take the leap and bet on myself, just like dad always told me to do. My wife Andrea and I will be relocating to Pennsylvania to be closer to family, and to operate our radio station in Reading, @loud993, full time. There will be more Loud stations to come in the near future, and I'll continue to produce In The Mix With DJ Grooves from my basement. To my teammates in San Antonio, all I can say, in the most humble way possible, is thank you. The past four and a half years have been the most rewarding of my entire professional radio career. Thanks to the leadership here, you’ve created a culture that make this cluster the exception and not the rule in our industry. I would never have the confidence to take this risk if I hadn’t come here. Now I get to say the three words I’ve been waiting nearly almost two decades to say out loud: I’m going home. The area code of my phone number will finally match the city I live in. And I get to run a business doing what I love with the person I love. As for Dad, I know he would’ve been proud. Our family is finally together, and I know he’s looking down smiling. See you soon, PA. Time to make radio even LOUDER 🙂
