Nielsen begins its monthly release of PPM ratings with today’s Day 1 update including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston/Galveston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Long Island, Riverside/San Bernardino, San Jose, and Middlesex/Somerset/Union.

Among the numbers of note for the September monthly:
- iHeartMedia R&B “V103” 102.7 WVAZ Chicago rises from third with a 5.0 share to 5.7 to take the market lead. Hubbard Classic Rock “97.1 The Drive” WDRV holds steady at a 5.4 for second, while Cumulus Classic Hits 94.7 WLS-FM rises 3.8 to 4.9 to jump from seventh to third.
- Moving in the opposite direction with a plunge from first at 5.7 to a tie for sixth at 4.2 is Hubbard Hot AC “101.9 The Mix” WTMX.
- iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW New York once again expands its lead to two hole shares over second ranked Entercom Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM with a 7.7 to 5.7 lead.
- After not appearing in last month’s numbers, Educational Media Foundation’s 95.5 WPLJ New York returns with a 0.4 share.
- Entercom News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC San Francisco drops 6.5 to 6.4 but rises to a first place tie with Public News/Talk 88.5 KQED-FM as they drop 7.1 to 6.4.
- Cumulus Classic Rock 107.7 KSAN surges 3.1 to 4.8 to rise to third in the market while Entercom Hot AC “Alice 97.3” KLLC rises 3.8 to 4.7.
- In its final monthly (one week of the new KNBR simulcast) 104.5 KFOG San Francisco goes out with a 0.9 share in that market and 1.2 in San Jose.
- The margins between the top three station in Los Angeles narrows. iHeartMedia AC 103.5 KOST rises 5.8 to 5.9 to stay on top. Entercom Classic Hits “K-Earth 101.1” KRTH rises 5.0 to 5.6 to jump to second, while iHeartMedia Hot AC “104.3 My-FM” KBIG falls to third but holds at a 5.3 share.
- Radio One R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ Houston rises 6.2 to 7.1 to retain its market lead. Cox Classic Rock “106.9/107.5 The Eagle” KHPT/KGLK rises 5.5 to 6.5 to jump from fourth to second.
- iHeartMedia R&B 105.3 WDAS-FM and Entercom Sports 94.1 WIP Philadelphia tie for the market lead at a 6.6 with Beasley Classic Rock 102.9 dropping first to third at 6.5.
- iHeartMedia Hip-Hop “Power 99” 98.9 WUSL Philadelphia rises 3.9 to 5.0.
- Another big gainer is Entercom Sports “92.9 The Game” WZGC Atlanta with a 3.4 to 4.3 rise tied to the start of the NFL season.
- After leading the market for most of the summer, Salem Media Christian AC “104.7 The Fish” WFSH drops to ninth with a 4.7 to 4.2 slide.
