Way Media has launched its Christian AC “Way-FM” network on 91.5 WUEV Evansville IN after closing on its $150,000 purchase of the station from the University of Evansville.
Way Media agreed to purchase WUEV in May after the University spent a couple years considering a sale while dealing with protesting alumni groups. When announcing the sale, the school emphasized that WUEV’s audio production facilities will be integrated into the multimedia resources for students to develop skills for the current digital media environment and students will continue to have access to broadcast outlets, such as ESPN3 and the Old National Bank radio network while saving the university $1 million over 10 years. The WUEV call letters are supposed to remain with the University of Evansville, but with no other licenses to park them on it is unknown what will happen.
The student run format featured a block format that consisted of Jazz from 3am to 6pm, Pop Hits from 6-9pm and segments dedicated to Alternative, Hip-Hop, Blues, and Christian Hits.
Way-FM had previously been heard in Evansville on 91.9 W220DV and 106.1 WDKS-HD2. No word yet what the plans or for that translator.
