Cumulus CHR “Y102” 101.9 WHHY Montgotmery AL Program Director/afternoon host Jay Rio has exited in a round of budget cuts.
Rio had programmed WHHY since October 2017 after a long run with Radio One as Imaging Director/afternoon host for Hip Hop “Hot 96.3” WHHH Indianapolis and then Production Director for their Houston cluster and midday host at Classic Hip Hop “Boom 92.1” KROI. He began his career in Houston at 107.9 KXTJ and later worked at KBXX/KMJQ before serving as APD/morning host at KBLZ Tyler TX and APD/afternoon host at 94.5 WGBT Greensboro NC prior to joining Radio One.
In a public statement Rio comments, “I was blessed to have the opportunity to lead the WHHY brand in Montgomery and I’d like to thank Cumulus Media, Louie Diaz and Greg Frey for their confidence in my ability. I am forever grateful and look forward to my next chapter in my career”
Rio is seeking his next opportunity and can be reached at Rioontheradio@gmail.com or at 317-250-7361.
The move leaves WHHY with no local talent outside of the morning show hosted by Tommy Fields and Gordie Daniels.
