FCC Actions
The University of Arkansas system’s Classic Hits “Ed 88” 88.5 KTYC Nashville and 88.7 KBPU De Queen AR have entered into a consent decree with the FCC and will pay a $76,000 civil penalty for violating the rules for underwriting by broadcasting announcements that promoted the products, services or businesses of its financial contributors.
The two stations, which are operated by Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, were the subject of a complaint to the FCC that between September 14 and 17 of 2016 they aired what should have been underwriting announcements that promoted for-profit products or services and contained qualitative descriptions and comparative language, pricing information, and/or calls to action.
