iHeartMedia Denver announced today that Mike Rice has been named the new play-by-play announcer for the Colorado Rockies on KOA 850 AM & 94.1 FM, The Voice of Colorado, effective immediately.
Rice has been covering Colorado sports teams since 1991, including play-by-play duties for the University of Colorado and the University of Northern Colorado. Since 2002, Rice has been with KOA serving in a number of sports roles, including studio host for the Denver Broncos, fill-in play-by-play announcer for the Colorado Rockies and anchoring morning sportscasts. Rice also serves as Sports Director of KOA and will retain that position.
Rice joins Jack Corrigan, who is entering his 18th season as a play-by-play announcer for the Rockies. In addition to play-by-play duties, Rice will host “Rockies All Access,” which airs every Saturday on KOA.
KOA has served as the radio rights holder and flagship station of the Colorado Rockies since the team’s first pitch in 1993. KOA’s Colorado Rockies broadcasts are heard on over 40 radio stations throughout Colorado and the Western United States via the KOA Rockies Radio Network.
“I am incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to join the Rockies broadcast team,” said Rice. “I have covered and followed the team since coming to KOA and to now be involved in this capacity is beyond anything I could have imagined.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Mike Rice to the Colorado Rockies broadcast booth,” said Brenda Egger, Region President for iHeartMedia’s Denver. “Mike’s skills, passion and knowledge of the game are sure to resonate with Rockies fans.”
