Nielsen begins its monthly release of PPM ratings with today’s Day 1 update including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston/Galveston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Long Island, Riverside/San Bernardino, San Jose, and Middlesex/Somerset/Union.

Summer is here and with it CHR makes its rebound in a few markets. In Chicago, iHeartMedia’s “103.5 Kiss-FM” WKSC has trended up 2.7 – 3.3 – 3.7, while Entercom’s “B96” WBBM-FM is up 2.1 – 2.0 – 2.7. Houston seeks Cumulus’ 104.1 KRBE up 3.7 to 4.0 and Radio One’s “Radio Now 92.1” KROI up 0.7 to 1.2. iHeartMedia’s “Q102” WIOQ Philadelphia trends up 2.4 – 2.7 – 3.3 and in Long Island iHeartMedia “Z100” WHTZ rises 3.6 to 4.6 and Cox Media’s 106.1 WBLI i up 3.9 to 4.5.
Spanish Broadcasting System’s Spanish Tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ-FM New York rebounds from its encoding issue caused drop with a three month line of 8.7 – 6.6 – 7.9. Following it in New York are Entercom Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM with 6.6 to 6.2 slide and iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW with a 5.9 to 6.1 rise. Also with a big gain in the market is Entercom Hot AC “New 102.7” WNEW with a 2.4 to 3.0 move.
Ratings expert Chris Huff notes that Entercom Classic Hits “K-Earth 101” KRTH has set an all-time station record high with its 5.7 to 6.1 gain to retain its Los Angeles market lead.
Trailing KRTH is a crowd of iHeartMedia News/Talk 640 KFI with a 4.4 to 4.7 gain. AC 103.5 KOST drops to a third place tie with a 5.1 to 4.6 slide. Entercom Rhythmic AC “94.7 The Wave” KTWV matches KOST with a 4.1 to 4.6 slide. iHeartMedia Hot AC “104.3 My-FM” KBIG falls from third to fifth with a 4.9 to 4.4 drop.
Entercom News 780 WBBM/105.9 WCFS continues to lead Chicago with a 7.0 share. Hubbard Classic Rock “97.1 The Drive” WDRV falls 6.4 to 6.0. iHeartMedia Adult R&B “V103” WVAZ ranks third with a 5.7, while Hubbard Hot AC “101.9 The Mix” WTMX rises to fourth with a 4.8 to 5.2 gain.
Both Country stations in Chicago are on the upswing. Entercom’s “US 99” WUSN rises 2.5 to 2.7 despite the cancellation of its morning show, while iHeartMedia’s “Big 95.5” WEBG is up 1.7 to 2.1. Entercom AAA 93.1 WXRT is also up with a 3.9 to 4.5 gain.
Moving in the downward direction in Chicago are Nexstar News/Talk 720 WGN with a 5.2 – 4.5- 3.3 slide, while Public News/Talk 91.5 WBEZ trends down 4.7 – 3.8 – 3.2.
Entercom News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC San Francisco drops 8.9 to 8.3 but holds its lead over Public News/Talk 88.5 KQED which falls 7.8 to 7.4. iHeartMedia Soft AC “98.1 The Breeze” KISQ is still far behind in third with a 4.6 to 4.4 drop.
iHeartMedia CHR “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS Dallas retakes the lead with a 5.9 to 6.2 gain, while Sales Christian AC 94.9 KLTY drops 6.1 to 5.6. Cumulus’ “New Country 96.3” KSCS rises to third with a 4.5 to 5.1 jump.
iHeartMedia Rock “97.1 The Eagle” KEGL shows growth in Dallas with a 3.5 to 4.1 rise, as does Entercom Alternative “Alt 103.7” KVIL up 1.7 to 2.3.
iHeartMedia AC “Sunny 99” KODA retains its lead in Houston holding steady at a 7.1 share. Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 102.9” KLTN moves up to second with a 6.7 to 6.5 drop trading places with Cox Media Classic Rock “107.5/106.9 The Eagle” KGLK/KHPT which fell 6.9 to 6.4. Entercom Variety Hits “95.7 The Spot” KKHH jumps to fourth with a 4.9 to 6.0 gain. iHeartMedia News/Talk 740 KTRH drops to fifth with a 6.3 to 5.6 fall. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ is trending downwards with a 6.5 – 5.7 – 5.1 move.
iHeartMedia Adult R&B 105.3 WDAS-FM continues its COVID era dominance in Philadelphia with an 8.9 share to place it well ahead of Beasley Media Rock 93.3 WMMR’s second place 6.7 share. Entercom AC “B101.1” WBEB rebounds massively with a 3.0 – 4.3 – 6.3 trend to move up to third. Beasley Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK continues to trend down 8.0 – 6.8 – 6.1.
While being one of the only Sports stations to retain its audience in the early parts of the pandemic, time ran out for Entercom Sports 94.1 WIP as it trends down 5.9 – 4.7 – 4.3 to fall into a tenth place tie with iHeartMedia Alternative “Alt 104.5” WRFF. WRFF has trended up 3.5 – 4.0 – 4.3 coinciding with its rebranding in late May.
Cox Media Group News/Talk 750 WSB/95.5 WSBB Atlanta holds its dominance of the market with a 10.4 to 10.6 gain, while its clustermates continue to hold four of the top five spots. Cox’s Classic Rock “97.1 The River” WSRV is steady at a 7.9 share, Adult R&B “Kiss 104.1” WALR is third with a 7.0 to 6.9 and AC “B98.5” WSB-FM remains fifth with a 5.1 to 4.9 drop. Entercom Hip Hop/R&B “V103” WVEE breaks the Cox wall with a fourth place showing despite dropping 6.6 to 6.3.
Cox Classic Rock 102.3 WBAB/95.3 WHFM regains the lead in Long Island with a 6.2 to 5.9 drop. Entercom Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM rises to second with a 4.8 to 5.7 rise and iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ falls to third with a 6.6 to 5.0 fall.
