The majority owner of an Austin TX station group has been indicted on felony charges of evidence tampering in regards to the destruction of footage from the TV show “Live PD” that showed two sheriff’s deputies beating and killing Javier Ambler last year.
Austin based lawyer Jason Nassour, who served as Williamson County TX general counsel from 2017 until August, is facing third-degree felony charges punishable by two to ten years in prison and fines up to $10,000 following a grand jury indictment. He is accused along with Sheriff Robert Chody of stonewalling the investigation into Ambler’s death by refusing to release the video documented by “Live PD” and then telling the producers that the investigation was closed and the video could be destroyed. The show was cancelled by A&E in June in part due to how the producers handled the footage.
Should Nassour be convicted he would be ineligible to hold FCC licenses. He is the majority owner of Genuine Austin Radio LP, which also operates as Austin Radio Network, directly owning 30% of the company and serving as trustee overseeing an additional 29% stake. The partnership owns Red Dirt Country 99.3 KOKE-FM Thorndale/98.5 K253AN Sunset Valley, Sports “104.9 The Horn” KTXX-FM Bee Cave/1260 KTAE Elgin/101.9 K270CO Round Rock, and Classic Hits “105.3 The Bat” K287FG/KTXX-HD4.
