As part of its massive downsizing today, Clear Channel has announced major programming changes at a number of its large market sports stations as well as its Fox Sports Radio unit.
In Los Angeles, Sports By Brooks reports that 570 KLAC’s programming will be merged into the national Fox Sports Radio. FSR middayers (9am to 12pm Eastern) Craig Shemon and James Washington will be replaced by Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio Networks taking over the distribution of The Content Factory’s Dan Patrick Show. KLAC night hosts Petros Papadakis and Matt Smith will replace Krystal Fernandez and Andrew Siciliano in the 7pm – 10pm Eastern slot. Two of KLAC’s afternoon co-hosts, Steve Hartman and Vic Jacobs will join Chris Myers in the 3pm-7pm Eastern slot on FSR. The third KLAC co-host Mychal Thompson is out, as is Fox Sports Radio overnight host Ben Maller.
The new Fox Sports Radio will get extended clearances in at least three markets. Clear Channel’s “Xtra Sports 1360” KLSD San Diego and “1130 The Fan” WDFN Detroit have eliminated all of their local positions to air the new FSR lineup 24/7. They will be joined by 740 WQTM Orlando, which will return to sports after a year as Spanish Oldies “La Preciosa” according to the Orlando Sentinel.
