Following the programming merge of Active Rock “98.9 The Bone” W255CJ and “Rock 100.5” WNNX on Friday, Cumulus has debuted Christian Country “98.9 The Walk” at noon today.
The station debuted with Keith Urban’s “For The Grace Of God” following a two hour stunt of song clips featuring the word “Walk” in it.
We already have two great Christian Rock stations 93.3 and 104.7 and there are full power stations. This in my opinion isnt very smart. Dave was an amazing station and made Atlanta unique for their Quality Rock. But a low power country christian station?? is there something im not getting? I think Dave would fit perfect on 98.9 or well if you ask me Dave or a Dave like station would be great on any frequency around the ATL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As Chris Everett noted first, calling 93.3 an “Atlanta” station is practically sacrilegious compared to 98.9. W255CJ’s 250 watts will reach more active listeners than WVFJ’s 27,000.
I agree – don’t understand this move at all!
Country has always accommodated sacred music and Southern gospel. There’ve been quite a few stations that mixed in Southern gospel with C&W. It’s a natural format for Atlanta.
WVFJ and WFSH may be full-power FMs, but they both rimshot metro Atlanta — and their format is Christian AC. The 98.9 signal is licensed to Atlanta proper.
Dave was a great radio station. You can’t replicate it.
All the best with this hybrid. There is certainly plenty of terrific music for the blend.
The 97.9 and 98.9 frequencies appear to be in continous spin… They will never compete with the full power stations weather rock, country or christian, so why not bring in something new like a “Party/Euro” Dance Type station, AAA like “Dave-FM” back or even a Jack or Steve type format station. Clear Channel did something new with their 92.3 signal in “Comedy-92.3” which is good. But four Top-40 type stations just drive me crazy!
