Bridgelight LLC has proposed a move of its Pomona, NY translator that could help push along a New York move-in.
94.3 W232AL has applied to move across the Hudson River to the current tower of Cumulus’ 103.9 WFAS-FM Bronxville. From its new location the translator will be licensed to rebroadcast Cumulus’ 1230 WFAS. There will be a huge increase in power from the 3 watts that W232AL currently runs to the 250 watts translator maximum.
The application is contingent on the FCC denying two translator applications from the 2003 filing window that are finally going through processing at the agency. If one of the applications on 94.3 in Dobbs Ferry, NY or Elizabeth, NJ are approved then this application is moot.
If approved the translator’s directional 250 watts will cover much of Westchester County along with parts of Rockland and Bergen County, NJ. Its signal will be comparable to the existing signal of WFAS-FM which runs with 600 watts from the proposed location but has an outstanding permit to relocate to the Bronx and place a stronger signal over parts of New York City. The translator’s directional signal will protect co-channel signals WWSK Smithtown, NY, WKXP Kingston, NY and WYBC-FM New Haven, CT.
Back in January, we reported that Cumulus had reserved domains for 1039WRXP.com and parked those call letters in Minnesota after their short use on what is now Country “94.7 Nash-FM” WNSH. The following is mere speculation on our part, but the pieces seem to fit. Cumulus can move WFAS-FM’s existing programming to 1230/94.3 to retain its coverage of the Westchester County market while positioning 103.9 into its New York City cluster.
W232AL currently rebroadcasts Bridgelight’s Christian AC “The Bridge” 89.7 WRDR Freehold Township, NJ/99.7 WJUX Monticello, NY.
