Clear Channel has relaunched the “Planet Radio” Rock brand in Jacksonville.
The new incarnation of the station comes via translator 106.9 W295AZ and 97.9 WNWW-HD2. The 99 watt translator had been rebroadcasting Clear Channel’s “Sportsradio 930” WFXJ.
The Active Rocker is being branded as “Jacksonville’s Real Rock” and promoting being commercial free all summer long. “106.9 Planet Radio” is the third Jacksonville frequency to hold the Planet identity as it first aired on 93.3 from 1995 to 2005 and 107.3 from 2005 until August 2010.

When WPLA flipped to Classic Hits then it was one of three Rock stations in the market. Since the demise of 104.5 WFYV in April, Cox’ “X102.9” WXXJ has had the current Rock audience to itself.
