Cox Media Group has tweaked Classic Rock “Rock 103” KJSR Tulsa to “103.3 The Eagle“.
The move was accompanied by the dismissal of the Billy Madison show from mornings. Madison, based at sister Classic Rock 99.5 KISS San Antonio, will continue to be heard there and on his other syndicated affiliates.
The relaunch to The Eagle brings along a slight musical shift away from harder rock songs and a focus on 80s and 90s tracks return KJSR’s focus to 70s and 80s rock. That brings the station back to what it was prior to the relaunch as “Rock 103” from its previous identity of “Star 103” in October 2012.
KJSR recorded a 3.5 share in the Fall Phase 2 Nielsen Audio Trends, well behind the 5.4 of Clear Channel’s 97.5 KMOD.
I am glad 103.3 switched back to a ” friendlier” presented classic rock station. The foul language, dirty jokes and rough image that was associated with “Rock 103” were not appropriate for Tulsa. This new format reminds me of the former (two formats back) Star 103.3 , a classic rock station that is missed dearly in Tulsa.
I am happy that 103.3 the Eagle offers a direct MP3 formatted link for their streaming audio. Because of this feature, I will listen more often.
