Scripps has filed its application to acquire Journal Communications with the FCC.
The deal will lead to Scripps losing its grandfathered status in Wichita. Journal accumulated the cluster prior to the FCC changed the way it counts the number of stations in a market, therefore requiring one of the five FM’s owned by Journal in Wichita to be sold. Scripps has not revealed which station it will sell from “Classic Country 92.3” KFTI, Rock “T95” 95.1 KICT, Country 101.3 KFDI, Classic Rock “104.5 The Fox” KFXJ, and Regional Mexican “Radio Lobo 106.5” KYQQ. The company also owns Spanish Sports “ESPN Deportes 1070” KLIO.
Scripps will also divest one Boise television station and request a waiver to retain both of Journal’s television stations in Green Bay.
