Greater Media is shaking up its airstaff at Country 102.5 WKLB and AC “Magic 106.7” WMJX Boston as three veteran personalities have been shown the door.
At WKLB, afternoon host Steve Kelly exits after 17 years at the station and night host Keith Stephens is gone after 14 years. Incoming for afternoons is Keven Kennedy, who was serving as morning host at iHeartMedia Rhythmic AC “Movin 107.7” WMOV-FM Norfolk. Kennedy is also known by his on-air name ‘Nudge’, which he used on his former Dial Global syndicated night show and voicetracking mornings at “Voodoo 104” KVDU New Orleans. A search for a new night host is ongoing. The changes at WKLB come as the station fends off iHeart’s “101.7 The Bull” WBWL for the Boston Country audience.
Candy O’Terry began at WMJX in 1990 as a secretary and eventually worked her way up to Assistant Program Director before joining David O’Leary in mornings two years ago. She now exits after twenty five years at the station. O’Terry passed along a note stating “The last 25 years at Magic have been the best years of my life and it really wasn’t easy to leave a 2-year deal on the table. I’m writing a children’s book with my daughter Colleen and launching my first full length CD called “Dream Come True” on May 30 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Lucy’s Love Bus. Stay tuned, there’s more news to come…I never can sit still for long and I love radio way too much to leave it for long, I just won’t be getting up at 3:30 in the morning anymore!”
Greater Media announces Keven Kennedy has been named as the new afternoon drive host at WKLB-FM in Boston. He will begin on the air weekdays from 2-7pm on Thursday, March 26, 2015.
“It’s exciting to welcome a personality of Keven’s caliber to Country 102.5,” said Mike Brophey, program director at WKLB-FM. We know he’ll feel right at home on the air in Boston and we expect to see him everywhere in the community!”
“Ecstatic doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about joining Greater Media Boston on one of America’s preeminent country radio stations,” said Kennedy. “ I’m so grateful for the opportunity to host a show in one of the greatest cities on the planet!”
Kennedy most recently served as the Host of both the “Kennedy in the Morning” show at Movin’ 107.7 WMOV in Norfolk, VA and “Nudge in the Morning” on KVDU-FM/Voodoo 104 in New Orleans, LA. Previous to that, he was heard on Dial Global’s syndicated “Nudge At Night” as well as on the “Hits Now” format.
He’s also been on the air at KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, WSTR-FM in Atlanta, WIOQ-FM in Philadelphia, WHYI-FM in Miami, KDBW-FM in Minneapolis, KISS 96 in St. Cloud Minnesota as well as New Jersey’s WBBO-FM in Ocean Monmouth and WAYV in Atlantic City.
It appears that Candy O’Terry could have stayed if she wanted to, since she was being offered a new contract.
I wonder if the evening slot on WKLB-102.5 is going to be taken up by a syndicated show (read: Westwood One’s “The Lia Show”).
