Whiplash Community Radio will flip Oldies 1120 WKCE Maryville/Knoxville, TN to All-News “1120 News Now” on Saturday, July 4.
The daytime only signal will feature 15 minute blocks including ABC News, local reports from Bob Yarborough, Seth Stokes and Chris Lash, traffic, weather, and Sports updates from sister “1180 The VLZ“.
Knoxville, TN based radio station 1120 WKCE will change formats to all news beginning Saturday, July 4th. 1120 News Now brings you everything you need to know in 15 minutes; National News from ABC, Local News with Bob Yarborough, Seth Stokes and Chris Lash, weather with Matt Hinkin, traffic with Pete Michaels and sports from our sister station Sports Radio 1180 The VLZ! News with no nonsense. Updates provided around the clock.
So, when you want the story right the first time, tune into Knoxville’s brand new 1120 News Now. The format, exclusive to the Knoxville market is the brainchild of consultant Tony Richards from the State of Indiana, and has been put together by owner Chris Lash. “I feel its a great move for us, as music on AM radio continues to dwindle. In 15 minutes, we’ll give you everything you need to know including national, state and local news. And we’ll drive it with billboards in the South Knoxville, and Tri County areas around Seymour.” said Lash.
The new format appears to be based on that of Warsaw, Ind.’s WRSW. I guess Tony Richards is now trying to market it elsewhere.
Hopefully the technical problems plaguing that signal for so long are fixed, it’ll stay on the air consistently and be a success.
They claim that there’s a FM translator in the works, which should help.
