Five years after exiting CBS Rhythmic CHR 95.5 WPGC Washington, DC, Donnie Simpson is returning to radio in our nation’s capital.
Simpson will host afternoons from 3-7pm on Urban AC “Majic 102.3” WMMJ Bethesda, MD starting on August 17 as part of what The Washington Post reports will be a multi-media deal with a television component. They state that Simpson will likely host a music video program on TVOne similar to his “Video Soul” that was seen on BET from 1983 until 1996.
Simpson came to the Washington market from WJLB Detroit in 1977 as PD/Morning host at then “Disco 93.9” WRC-FM. He led the station through its transition to Urban WKYS before moving over to what became CBS’ 95.5 WPGC in 1993. He has been retired from radio since exiting WPGC’s morning show in 2010.
One small correction: 93.9 had been WKYS for several years by 1977, going back to when it was easy listening (“Soft as a Kiss”) just before its disco days.
