Rawlco Radio’s “Up 97.7” CHUP-FM Calgary has completed its evolution from Adult Hits to Mainstream AC as it rebranded on Friday as “Soft Rock 97.7“.
CHUP placed twelfth out of eighteen stations in the March-May Numeris PPM ratings with a 4.1 share, but was fourth in the market in CUME. The Calgary market has been without a straight-ahead AC station since Rogers Media’s “Lite 95.9” CHFM shifted to Adult CHR “Kiss 95.9” in December 2013.
I wonder why Rawlco decided to switch over CHUP as opposed to sister station, CIUP in Edmonton. Even though CHUP’s numbers were lower than CIUP, it trended upwards with the 4.1 in the latest PPM survey. It reached into the “4.0” for the first time, from the past 2 years. CIUP, on the other hand, has been slipping downwards for a while now. And it’s not like Edmonton has a proper AC station either.
