Update 8/13: NRG Media fulfilled the supposed wishes of Omaha listeners at 4pm today with the launch of 80s based Classic Rock “101.9 The Keg“.
Featuring core artists such as Guns N’ Roses, Journey, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Van Halen and Def Leopard, the flip places KOOO in competition with Journal’s duo of Active Rock “Z92” 92.3 KEZO and Classic Rock “CD 105.9” KKCD.
The new format replicates Clear Channel’s former “96.1 The Brew” KQBW, which flipped to CHR in September 2012. Todd ‘Crash’ Davis moves from afternoons to mornings at KOOO, replacing Dave Wingert.
Update 8/12: KOOO is running teasers between songs that “Your Wish Will Come True” at Wednesday at 4pm. 1019TheHog.com features a countdown clock for the same time stating “You Wish Come True”.
Original Report 8/11: NRG Media is dropping Variety Hits “Big O 101.9” from KOOO La Vista/Omaha.
Currently running its music sans imaging, the station’s website has been replaced with an image of a genie’s lamp asking “What’s Your Wish?”.
Next up appears to be Country formatted “101.9 The Hog“. 1019TheHog.com was registered by NRG Omaha Operations Manager Jeff Lynn. That website states “All your country favorites in one place!”.
Country on 101.9 would place the station in competition with Clear Channel’s market leading “Kat 103.7” KXKT and Classic Country “93.3 The Wolf” KFFF. KOOO ranked 12th in the Omaha market with a 2.5 share in the Spring 2014 Nielsen Audio ratings, making it the lowest rated music station in the market.
Wednesday at 4pm Central will be flip time.
@Jeremiah – Is that being promoted on-air? For the hour we listened there was no imaging outside of the Legal ID.
