After signing on Thursday with a loop of Ice Cube’s “It Was A Good Day”, 102.3 W272BY Cincinnati/WEBN-HD3 debuted its permanent “102.3 The Beat” Classic Hip-Hop identity at 12pm Friday.
The station launched with Dr. Dre’s “Dre Day”, Black Sheep “The Choice Is Yours”, and Jay Z’s “H To The Izzo”. The new format positions W272BY between Radio-One’s combo of Urban “101.1 The Wiz” WIZF and Urban Oldies “Old School 100.3” WOSL.
Original Report 12/10: A “Beat” will soon launch in Cincinnati.
iHeartMedia registered TheBeatCincy.com yesterday. Now while the site is live promoting itself as Classic Hip-Hop “102.7 The Beat” we don’t think for a second that Rock WEBN is going anywhere.
All of the code for the site refers to WEBN-HD3, which will be used to feed Educational Media Foundation’s 102.3 W272BY Cincinnati following its upgrade to to 87 watts at 251 meters (Coverage Map). Whether its Classic Hip-Hop or Urban to directly attack Radio-One’s “101.1 The Wiz” WIZF it definitely will not replace WEBN in the process.
