Former 102.5 KSFM Sacramento MD/Afternoon host Eliseo ‘Short-E’ Cierra has been appointed Program Director for iHeartMedia Hot AC “Y100.1” WZJZ Port Charlotte and Rhythmic CHR “105.5 The Beat” Naples Park/Fort Myers FL. Cierra served as Music Director and afternoon host at KSFM until this past April. He previously spent eight years at 103.5 KBMB/KHHM Sacramento. In addition to programming the two stations he will also serve as afternoon host on WBTT. With the Spring Book starting today, iHeartMedia CHR “Y100” WZJZ Port Charlotte FL has moved to Hot AC tweaking its branding to “Y100.1“. Positioned as “90s To Now”, the move takes WZJZ out of direct competition with Beasley Media CHR “B103.9” WXKB and puts it in-between WXKB and Fort Myers Broadcasting AC 96.9 WINK-FM. The syndicated Elvis Duran show remains in mornings with WKTU New York’s Wendy Wild tracking middays and local host ‘Big D’ moving from middays to afternoons.
Clear Channel’s syndicated Bobby Bones Show, based at “96.7 Kiss-FM” KHFI Austin, will transition from serving CHR to Country stations. The show is currently heard on 18 stations primarily in the central and southern parts of the country. The biggest of which is “Z107.7” KSLZ St. Louis. Bones will do his final show for CHR stations on Friday, February 8. In Austin, the show will move to Clear Channel’s 100.7 “KASE 101” while the program itself will become based at “The Big 98” WSIX Nashville. To make room for Bones at KASE, their current morning show Bama, Rob, and Heather will move to 98.1 KVET. Clear Channel Rhythmic AC “Z100” 100.1 WZJZ Port Charlotte/Fort Myers, FL flipped to CHR as “Y100“at 6am. The station had been stunting all weekend with artists performing at Clear Channel’s upcoming IHeartRadio Music Festival. This is the second attempt at CHR on this frequency. It was “100.1 Kiss-FM” WKFF in 2000-2001. The move puts the station back in direct competition with Beasley CHR “B103.9” WXKB and Fort Myers Broadcasting’s Adult CHR “96.9 WINK-FM“.
Update 3/31/09: As predicted, WZJZ became Rhythmic AC “Z100” at 6:00am under PD Scrap Jackson. Another Smooth Jazz has bitten the dust. This time, in Fort Myers, FL as 100.1 WZJZ has begun stunting with a loop of a line from Reel 2 Real’s “I Like To Move It”. What’s Next? Z1001.com was registered to Clear Channel on March 9 with the following logo appearing today on the Clear Channel servers. Looks like Rhythmic AC to us as the same “Move To The Music” slogan is in use at sisters “My 106.1” Philadelphia and “93.9 MIA” in Miami
