FCC Report 3/12: Beasley Loses Challenge Against Tampa LPFM

Beasley Media's "Interference Complaint" against 100.1 WVVF-LP Town N' Country/Tampa FL filed in July 2015 for operating as a de-facto commercial station by running a Spanish Classic Hits format and not the "educational" programming it claimed in its application was dismissed by the FCC. The FCC struck down Beasley's argument that WVVF-LP "through a predominantly music format, has failed to advance an educational program" as "The Commission has previously accepted all-music formats as advancing an educational program". "Viva 100.1" did not get off the hook completely as it entered into a Consent Decree and $2000 fine for violating the Underwriting Announcement Rule on at least one occasion.

Beasley Goes After Tampa LPFM For Competing Against Them

In a letter filed with the FCC on Friday, July 31, Beasley Media Group filed an “Interference Complaint” against Hispanic Arts of Tampa’s “Viva 100.1” WVVF-LP Town ‘N Country/Tampa, FL. Beasley’s argument states that WVVF-LP is “operating in a manner inconsistent with the requirement that Low Power FMs be used for the advancement of an educational program” and requested that the station be shut down until it complies with FCC requirements. Clear Channel Acquires Tampa Area Translators

Reach Communications will transfer the licenses of four Tampa/St. Petersburg area translators to Clear Channel in exchange for a revised rebroadcasting agreement between Reach and Clear Channel to allow Reach to use HD subchannels to feed its other translators. The four translators are: 88.3 W202CB Bayonet Point (which has applied to relocate to 99.1), 89.3 W207B Bayonet Point (which has applied to relocate to 100.1), 92.1 W221CE Wesley Chapel South, and 94.5 W233AV Gulfport (which is already operated by Clear Channel). W202CB and W221CE will be licensed to rebroadcast a subchannel of 97.9 WXTB, while 89.3 will join 94.5 and Clear Channel’s 105.9 W290BJ West Tampa in rebroadcasting Classic Rock “Thunder” via 100.7 WMTX-HD2.
