WRNB Makes Morning & Afternoon Changes

Urban One Urban AC 100.3 WRNB Media/Philadelphia PA is starting 2018 with major changes in both drive time dayparts. WRNB has dropped the syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show and local afternoon host Wendy ‘Lady B’ Clark and will replace them with a new local show hosted by Qunicy Harris in mornings and D.L. Hughley’s syndicated show in afternoons. Harris, formerly known as ‘Q-Deezy’, previously hosted nights at iHeartMedia Urban “Power 99” 98.9 WUSL and afternoons at Urban One’s “Hot 107.9” WPHI in the market. WRNB Drops Old School 100.3 Branding

Following the frequency swap and format change involving Urban Hot AC “Boom 103.9” WPHI-FM and Gospel “Praise 107.9” WPPZ-FM, Radio-One has revamped its third FM in Philadelphia. 100.3 WRNB Media has dropped its “Old School 100.3” branding in favor of just “100.3 WRNB” as the station’s playlist had shifted back towards Urban AC. No changes to the station’s airstaff that includes Tom Joyner in mornings, Chubb Rock in middays, and Lady B in afternoons. In the September 2016 Nielsen Audio ratings WRNB placed twelfth in the Philadelphia market with a a 3.6 share, but trailing iHeartMedia’s competing 105.3 WDAS-FM’s 6.4 share.

WRNB Philadelphia Goes Old School

Update 4/1: As expected, WRNB shifted to Urban Oldies “Old School 100.3” at 5pm. The previous on-air staff has departed including the syndicated Tom Joyner. Original Report 3/29: Urban AC 100.3 WRNB Philadelphia is promoting a “Big Announcement” for Monday, April 1 at 5:00pm. At that time it appears the station will become Radio-One’s fourth “Old School” branded Urban Oldies outlet joining stations in Charlotte, Dallas, and St. Louis. Radio-One registered OldSchool1003.com and OldSchool1003Philly.com on March 14. In the February 2013 PPM monthly, WRNB registered a 2.6 share overall placing the station well behind Clear Channel’s 105.3 WDAS-FM’s 6.4 share.

Hot 107.9 Philadelphia Debuts

Update 9/8: Radio-One finally debuted Urban “Hot 107.9” today at 5pm. The syndicated Rickey Smiley will be heard in mornings from 6 to 10am. Listen to the debut of Hot 107.9 at FormatChange.com. Update 9/6: As 107.9 get closer to unveiling its permanent format, the stunting has shifted from a Michael Vick takeover to syndicated morning host Rickey Smiley in order to introduce him to the market. 107.9 WRNB Philadelphia To Move To 100.3 On September 1

Update 9/1: The first half of the shift is complete. 100.3 began simulcasting 107.9 WRNB at 12:00am. The call letters have been swapped, with 100.3 now WRNB Media and 107.9 now WPHI-FM Pennsauken. Update 8/30: Radio-One adds what look like two decoy domains with 1079PhillyRocks.com and 1079News.com. Original Report 8/25: Radio-One has announced that Urban AC “107.9 R&B” WRNB Philadelphia will move to 100.3 on Thursday, September 1. 107.9’s programming will move completely intact to 100.3 including Tom Joyner in mornings. This shift will transfer the WRNB programming from the Class A signal licensed to Pennsauken, NJ where it operates with 780 watts at 906 feet to 100.3’s directional Class B.
